Terms of Use

Effective August 5, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the PlainlyScan app and website (together, the "Service"), operated by PlainlyScan ("we," "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. What PlainlyScan does

PlainlyScan uses artificial intelligence to turn photos of official mail into plain-language explanations, summaries, suggested next steps, and draft replies. It's an aid to understanding — a helpful second pair of eyes — not a replacement for reading important mail or consulting the sender.

Important — not professional advice. PlainlyScan's explanations are generated by AI and can be incomplete or wrong. They are not legal, medical, financial, tax, or benefits advice, and you should not rely on them as such. Always verify deadlines, amounts, and obligations against the original letter, and contact the sender or a qualified professional for anything consequential. You remain responsible for the decisions you make and any replies you send.

2. PlainlyScan Pro subscription

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use PlainlyScan only for lawful purposes and only to process documents you have the right to access. You won't attempt to disrupt the Service, probe or bypass its security (including app-attestation protections), reverse engineer it except where the law permits, or use it to generate content that is unlawful or harms others.

4. Your content

You keep all rights to your letters and documents. By using the Service you give us the limited permission needed to process redacted letter text for the sole purpose of generating your explanations and replies, as described in our Privacy Policy. We claim no ownership of your content.

5. Our property

The PlainlyScan app, website, name, icon, and design are our property and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms don't give you any right to use them except as needed to use the Service normally.

6. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that explanations will be accurate or complete, that scam warnings will catch every scam (or never flag legitimate mail), or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for missed deadlines, payments, penalties, or losses arising from reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

8. Termination

You can stop using PlainlyScan at any time. We may suspend or end access to the Service if these Terms are violated or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 4–9 survive termination.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
