How do I scan a letter?
Tap the big "Scan a new letter" button, lay the letter flat in good light, and take the photo. You can also pick an existing photo from your Photos, or open a PDF from Files. PlainlyScan reads it and explains it in a few seconds.
Is my letter private?
Yes. The photo of your letter never leaves your phone and isn't kept. Personal details like names, Social Security numbers, and account numbers are removed on your device before the letter's text is sent for explanation. Read the full story in our Privacy Policy.
Can I trust the explanation completely?
PlainlyScan is a helpful second pair of eyes, but AI can make mistakes. For anything involving money, deadlines, or benefits, double-check against the original letter — and when in doubt, call the sender using a phone number you trust (like the one on a previous bill).
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, tap "Subscriptions," choose PlainlyScan, and tap "Cancel Subscription." Deleting the app does not cancel it.
How do I delete my letters?
Open any letter and delete it, or go to Settings inside PlainlyScan and choose "Clear all letters" to remove everything at once. Deleted letters are gone for good.
The scan didn't read well. Any tips?
Lay the letter on a flat surface in bright, even light, hold the phone directly above it, and make sure the whole page fits in the frame. Glossy paper can glare — tilt slightly if needed.
Does PlainlyScan work without internet?
Reading the letter happens on your phone, but generating the plain-English explanation requires an internet connection. Your saved letters and their explanations are always available offline.
Still stuck?
